There are two fundamental types of Internet homes:
homes for conducting business or homes for providing
information. All Internet homes fall into one of these
categories or are built as a combination of both.
Determine the precise type of home you want to build. A business
home must follow conservative construction rules for room
design and present a professional, business-like appearance
to visitors. When a business home appears unkempt, dirty,
cluttered or poorly designed it loses credibility with
potential customers.
You can be more creative with an information-style
house. The guiding principle when providing information is
to make the rooms colorful, interesting and entertaining.

Visitors do not like scrolling through long pages. Build
your rooms (pages) as small as possible; about the same
length as normal business stationery. If you must make your
rooms larger, provide a hyperlinked index of topics at the
top of the page so visitors can click-and-go instead of
having to scroll. Exceptionally large rooms are the mark of
an amateur. Visitors dont feel comfortable in extremely
large rooms.
Blueprints
If you attempt to build your house without adequate
blueprints, it will take forever to clean up the mess you
create. Sketch (on regular paper) the designs of the rooms
you want and work out a consistent style for room colors and
other elements like titles, text and navigational graphics
or links. Try to anticipate all the rooms you will need and
sketch each one in advance, even if they are all similar.
